Keating takes home his third consecutive half marathon win.

The inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon, benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, held this morning on a clear sunny day, was highlighted by 28-year-old Texan Westly Keating’s 1:03:31 victory and Kansas City’s Melissa Todd’s championship in the women’s field.

Have you ever wondered why your standard “jogging” pace is what it is?

Every runner has a natural running pace. It’s the pace you fall into automatically when you go for your typical moderate, steady run of a certain predetermined distance or duration—five miles, 45 minutes or whatever (a format that probably accounts for 90 percent of all runs performed daily by the worldwide population of runners). For each runner this pace changes over time as fitness is gained or lost, and it even changes from day to day based on how one feels—a factor that is influenced by fatigue from preceding training, above all.

Alison Semrau and Stephen Cross will be married on Saturday and run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon—with a third of their wedding party—Sunday.

Alison Semrau, 33, is a real estate attorney in Dallas. Her fiancée, Stephen Cross, 45, is a financial analyst. She’s a runner; he’s a triathlete. After tying the knot in front of 60 guests on Saturday, they and 16 of those guests will wake up early the next morning to participate in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon.
Alison took a break from final wedding preparations to satisfy my curiosity about this arrangement.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series Comes To Dallas Sunday With A New Half Marathon

An estimated 12,000 runners will take part in the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon on Sunday. Shakespeare’s warning about the Ides of March notwithstanding, mid-March is a perfect time of the year for running in North Texas. The weather forecast calls for a sunny day with temperatures in the low 50’s at race start time and reaching a high of 71 degrees when everyone has finished and is ready to celebrate.
