Jeff McMahon, keyboard player for Tim McGraw’s band the Dancehall Doctors completes half marathon with personal best
After a 2009 season that saw Jeff McMahon, a member of Tim McGraw’s band The Dancehall Doctors, complete seven Rock ‘n’ Roll events and receive his ‘Super Six’ and ‘Rock Star’ Heavy Medals, the running keyboardist made his second Rock ‘n’ Roll appearance of 2010 this morning at the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon. Originally from Gainesville, Texas, the Baylor graduate flew in during his hectic 2010 tour schedule to participate in the brand-new Rock ‘n’ Roll event, which was conveniently just a stone’s throw from his hometown.

An elite field of Texas athletes will lead approximately 13,000 registered runners at the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon, benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, on Sunday, March 14. The new event, managed by the Competitor Group in partnership with the Dallas White Rock Marathon, will debut as part of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series and has drawn entrants from 47 states and 10 countries.

As we prepare for our inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon event on Sunday, March 14, we come across runners’ and walkers’ stories that are amazing, inspiring, instructional and FUN! As we packed our suitcases for Texas, however, one story stuck out unlike all the others. Laura Mowrey, a Komen participant and employee based out of Dallas, was diagnosed with breast cancer at 40 years of age and with no family history of the disease. To say she was surprised would be an understatement – and Laura took the shock, fear and anger she felt after getting the news and made it into a personal mission to help others and combat the disease that jeopardizes all who see unfavorable test results come across their doctors’ desks. We caught up with Laura a few weeks ago in Dallas and are excited to share her story with you here:

Better Than Ezra to Headline Post Race Concert; Online Registration Closes Sunday
Dallas, TX – March 3, 2010 – The Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon, benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is set for its inaugural running on Sunday, March 14, 2010. Platinum rock band Better Than Ezra will headline the post-race concert while half-marathon finishers and two-person relay teams celebrate their accomplishment. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Relay is a new addition to the 13.1-mile course and will begin at the same time as the half-marathon start, featuring 7 .1 mile first leg and 6 mile second leg with the DART Mockingbird Station marking the transition point.
